From 1727, Peter Jacob Horemans was court painter to the Bavarian Prince Elector, Karl Albrecht (later Emperor Charles VII) in Munich. He painted genre pictures, portraits and still lifes. He was well-regarded, above all, for his small-format depictions of courtly festivities, which feature portraits of the participants.
